Thanks, in no small part, to the computer and desktop publishing software, graphic design has become entirely too sterile. The art and craft of it is gone. These days, if every line, every bit of type and every image aren't flawless then the design isn't "finished." Computers have made it easy to reach this level of perfection, but in the process has robbed so much personality from design. Designers no longer have their "signature" – that distinct quality that separates their work from the sea of others. It's time for designers to find our own voices - our own style - again.
Over the past month things have been busy around the studio. Much of it has been time dedicated to the long overdue revitalization of my website, getting my blog online again and trying to take advantage of some of the networking posibilities of Twitter and Facebook.
It hasn't been all about me though. I also completed a very successful logo for Lead Safe High Point and worked up a logo for Fielden Family Dentistry. Another cool piece hot off the presses (literally) is a direct mail piece that I designed for Appalachian Hardwood and their campaign for the legal harvesting of Oak through sustainable forestry.
On the homefront, as those that have kept up with my blog already know, things have been a bit crazy too. Our beautiful daughter Emmi had to jump a few hurdles, but after a sucessful surgery a couple of weeks ago, she is back on track and is happier than ever. She reached her two month birthday on October 26. Photos and a couple posts about her surgery are on 85, my personal and studio blog.
